Are you looking for a thoughtful gift? Welcome to our website. Here you will find the most practical and meaningful selection of gifts. We are Linda Crawford and Cindy Clark, the owners and founders of Hoping Skills Company. As a bereaved mother and a therapist we were in need of keepsakes that honored life and gave hope during times of illness and loss. We searched for gifts and resources that could provide comfort and a lasting tribute to life. We discovered that flowers and fruit baskets aren't enough. That's why we developed the first exclusive product line of Hopeful Keepsakes for adults and children of all ages.

Grief is the normal and natural reaction when a pet has died. Everyone, including children perceives loss differently. Grief is a very personal and unique experience. One of the most difficult tasks for grieving children is to learn how to incorporate the death of their beloved pet into their lives and to figure out how to go on living without them. We believe in every child’s ability to create a meaningful goodbye and to memorialize their pet.

For Children
Ages 2- 12 Years

Inside our coping kits children will receive age-appropriate items for comfort, memorializing, stress relief/distraction and arts/crafts, as well as a special keepsake workbook.

“It was very hard for them to process ‘Sniffles’ death. It was astounding to see them pour their feelings into into the book. It was beautiful."
Kiera C.
Arlington, MA

Children sense changes around them often before they know what is happening. They are naturally curious and will usually seek out ways to satisfy their curiosity if their questions and concerns are not addressed. It is important for them to have age-appropriate tools to help minimize their worries and clarify any misconceptions. It’s true that children often feel left out when a loved one has a serious illness, especially cancer. Our special coping kits are designed to enhance resiliency and help them manage what is happening around them. With specially selected items for comfort, art & writing, children between the ages of 4-13 years whose lives are affected by cancer will cope more effectively when they receive this special gift.

“We didn’t know how to tell the kids that I had been diagnosed with breast cancer. Your kits helped them understand what was going to happen and how they might feel. The thought you have put into your kits is priceless.”
Shelly F.
Beckley, W. Virginia

Even if your child does not know someone who is on active duty they may still be very confused about their loved one's job in the military. This confusion may lead to a variety of misconceptions. Some children may even wonder: Why does my mom always have to go away? When is my uncle coming back? Due to their limited life experience, children deal with loss and stress differently than adults. When a loved one has to be away from home, changes to family life are inevitable. Our coping kit helps children of all ages keep the memory of their special person fresh in their minds. This patriotic themed kit, complete with special activity suggestions, is the perfect gift to show a child how much you really care.

"My friend gave our child Alex (age 5) a Tomauro® Kit to help him cope with being without his father during deployment. The kit has been very helpful for Alex to be able to express his feelings. He uses the markers to express what he thinks Daddy is doing overseas. This kit has helped Alex deal with his father being gone in a very positive way."

When a friend or relative dies it’s sometimes hard to know what you might do to comfort the survivors, particularly if you’re not close by. Flowers and gifts of food are always good, but Hoping Skills has come up with a brand new idea that I find very appealing. They have assembled thoughtful kits of practical and meaningful tools for children of all ages, and adults too, to help them through serious illness, grief, and loss. Included are items that offer distraction, stress relief, suggestions for memorializing the deceased, arts and crafts, and even educational materials on the grieving process. They convey a message of love and support. I commend the founders of Hoping Skills for a creative and imaginative contribution to the world of grief and bereavement.
